I never really liked Thanksgiving because getting together with my husband's family was always stressful. I felt fake, smiling when I wanted to bolt. This is my second Thanksgiving as a single woman, not attached to my ex-in laws anymore, and I get to design it exactly as I wish. Now it is filled with warmth, gratitude for second chances at life, and thanksgiving that I live a life of choice and growth and a beautiful family that I choose to be connected to.

The Feast!
I'm aware of gratitude each and every day, but it's somehow different on this one day - being thankful for abundance. It makes me doubly aware of all we have and it Tastes So Good!

It used to be the gathering of my family (even at the in-laws) but some have long sinced passed and the rest are scattered across Canada and the U.S. So nothing is the same, except spending a wonderful day filled with the best food and shared with friends..

My favorite thing about celebrating Thanksgiving is thinking very deliberately about the people, things and accomplishments of the past year for which I am thankful. My second favorite thing is my mother's cranberry dessert/salad that we've affectionately come to call the "Cranberry C--p." It tastes great, but doesn't have a real name so my sisters and I made that one up and it stuck.

Reflecting. We spend so much time dwelling on our problems and what we don't have, it's great to have a reminder to be fully aware and appreciate of all the goodness in our lives.

Gathering with family, cozy house, warm scents of turkey, and a sense of feeling VERY grateful.
This Thanksgiving weekend, I will be in a course all weekend with support, love, and learning.

After so many years of being the one taken in and fed at others' Thanksgiving celebrations (distant family, friends, roommates' families), my favorite thing about the holiday now is the chance to provide a meal and warm fun and friendship for other "Thanksgiving orphans" -- those international friends and colleagues whose families are too far away for them to go home.

Thanksgiving has such a relevant meaning for me since my son was born last year on Thanksgiving Day. After preparing this huge feast the night before, my water broke while I was asleep. I had to leave all that glorious food, but I was having a baby! My problems were meaningless from that moment he entered this world. He was my final attempt at motherhood and we had succeeded. He was only 36 weeks to the date, but he was perfect and strong and at peace. I couldn't be more thankful. His birthday is Thanksgiving Day to me and that is when I celebrated the holiday and will continue to do so for the rest of my life...HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

Growing up, it probably was watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on tv. Now we go out to eat at a fancy golf/country club because no one has the space, time or money to host the dinner.
