Carrie and Danielle: What are your can’t-live-without-it beauty products?

  • Elizabeth · 1 year ago
Desert Essence Jojoba oil (inexpensive at Trader Joe's). This stuff melts right into your skin and helped clear my acne-prone-dry-in-some-areas-oily-in-others-skin. Beautiful.

Skin LLC products. Super natural and handmade. Love the LemonAid Cleanser, Lemon Toner and incredible body products. Check out www.realorganicskin.com

I must have moisturizer and Mary Kays Time Wise Moisturizer does the trick. Also the Mary Kay Extra Emollient night cream is my dry skin savior for the winter time.
  • Jess · 1 year ago
I love Revlon cream blush. The Garnier roller ball for under your eyes and good ole Vaseline :)
  • Emily-Sarah · 1 year ago
    Rosebud Salve!

It's timeless (been around since 1895) and the uses for it are nearly limitless: chapped skin, blemishes, diaper rash, burns ... it keeps my lips from being dry, especially in winter, and I use it sparingly as a night moisturizer when my face needs some extra help (it helps lock in lotion and I mainly apply it under my eyes and on my forehead -- and on my nose after it's been abused from a cold or allergies!).

You can order it online from a variety of sources or you can call the Rosebud Perfume Company direct in Woodsboro, MD (301-845-8788) and they'll send you an order form (there's no minimum and it's ultra inexpensive going straight to the source); they don't take credit cards but do take checks or money orders, and they also have other products including Rosewater & Glycerine Cream lotion and Witch Hazel Soap.

No, I don't have any stock or business connection to the company. :-) But I'm a loyal, lifetime fan -- my parents always had Rosebud Salve on hand and I'm following suit.

A second vote for Rosebud Salve!! In addition to Emily-Sarah's uses I would add using it on my cuticles daily and soothing insect bites.

    Kiss Me Mascara!!
  • Ellen · 1 year ago
Murad Combination Skin Treatment - his original product and still the best....although I had trouble locating it on his website the last time I looked....hope it's not out of production! I've relied on it for over a decade!

Bobbi Brown taupe eyeshadow. Maybelline Mascara (but not the classic one in the pink tube). A good pair of tweezers (Tweezerman is great).

John Masters Organics Zinc and Sage Shampoo and Conditioner. I have big, full hair, and until this product had never been able to just use one product for both shampoo and conditioner.
And, MyChelle's Pumpkin Renewal Cream. It's like facial butter and doesn't clog the pores! Both are paraben free.
  • Meredith · 1 year ago
    - Lucas Paw Paws Ointment - you can use it on everything - lips, dry skin, cuts. It's a cure-all, but unfortunately you can only find it Down Under. Crikey!
  • Luckier · 1 year ago
Mascara. I'm a redhead, and my eyelashes are pretty much invisible without it. As for brands, the tried and true Maybelline works as well as the department store brands, at a third of the price -- their new silicon brushes work really well too.
  • Traci · 1 year ago
Good ol' Oil of Olay moisturizer. I've tried so many different kinds, at so many different price ranges, and this is the only one that really works on me.
  • fabuleuxparis · 1 year ago
Me too! My grandmother used it and her (sensitive!) skin was so lovely and unlined, that I decided many years ago, that it would probably work for me also. It does, I love it!

Phytoceuticals E+C serum (a 10% vitamin C serum). This is made by the doctor who stabilized vitamin C, patented it, and formed a company called Skinceuticals (which many of you know). However, after some time, he and his partner split; so the dr's new company is Phytoceuticals. He also stopped supplying his formulas to Skinceuticals, which i used to use, but found the formulas ineffective. So then i switched!

Being a makeup artist I have sooooo many favorite products, so I will try to keep this short. My cleasner, is a toss up between Cleansing Oil from Shu uemura or the La Mer cleansing foam. I use Cream de la mer as a eye cream as well as day and night.

Foundation, love love Aramani Luminous silk, which makes my skin look youthful and radiant. Blush, eyeshadow there are sooo many I love. However the Laura Mercier tight liner, is something that everyone woman should use. It thickens your lash line and makes your eyes look big and beautiful. Mascara Loreal Lash Out is #1 in my books. For my lips, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Pout Plump. Unfortunately the 3 UK ladies sold thier company and now the company is closed. I was lucky enough to buy a few off ebay. If you can get your hands on one of these it worth it weight in gold!

Always remember....the beauty truly comes from the inside out.

    MASCARA
  • justagirl · 1 year ago
My favorite beauty product is not technically a beauty product - it's water. I can REALLY tell the difference in my skin when I am not drinking enough.
  • kim · 1 year ago
Clinique Black Honey lipcolor and an eyelash curler.
  • MoJo · 1 year ago
Eminence Sun Defense Minerals # 0 - SPF 30 (this is the most amazing mineral powder ever - http://www.amazon.com/Eminence-Sun-Defense-Mine...) and Clinique Full Potential plump and shine - have 5 tubes and can't live witout it. It moisturizes and fills out lips like a combo balm and gloss.

I am hooked on the Nutri Min C line from Arbonne. It's all plant based with vitamin C and lots of minerals and anti aging magic stuff! It actually gives you a glow and has been the only thing some of my friends with Rosecea (sp?) could use. I actually became a consultant a year ago because I was so impressed...and I hate selling stuff like that. I give all my commisisons to World Vision so it actually is fun when people love it, tell their friends and order. I also love their skin conditioning oil, it has a fresh Aveda-ish scent and soothes my skin when it's sufferring from the elements. Also love the fresh minty-ness of Burt's Bees tinted Lip Balms. Champagne is pretty and subtle.

My EO peppermint/grapefruit lotion. Yes, definitely Burt's Bees lip balm (original, not Honey-flavored). Grateful Body cleanser, moisturizer. Origins' Have a Nice Day face lotion SPF 15. My MAC brushes, eye shadows, blush. Origins press powder (Sheer) and fig lip gloss. Oooh, and my L'Oreal liquid liner. Yumminess! All of them! But I don't know if this is a product: my Sedu flat iron!!! Absolutely cannot live without her!

Everyday Minerals has a line of beautiful and affordable mineral make-up products that have seriously changed my life. My skin is so much happier with mineral makeup that I'm spending less on other skincare products, and Everyday Minerals provides great quality and service at amazingly reasonable prices. www.everydayminerals.com

I've always wondered this - is it a good idea to use different face creams during the day vs. night? I always see advertisements for them but never know if it's just another marketing gimmick.

I'm addicted to my eyeliner and mascara from Bobby Brown.. and am currently using a great lavender body butter from L'occitane.
  • Kaiulani · 1 year ago
Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner. I have oily eye lids and live in a warm-humid climate. This is the only eyeliner that doesn't slide down my face by lunchtime. I'm also a Philosophy girl. Can't live without my Hope in a Bottle.
  • sheerperfection · 1 year ago
I have to have unrefined, raw shea butter for my skin, apple cider vinegar for my hair and baking soda for hair/skin Its amazing what can be found in the kitchen

oh and also crushed organic almond masks! and a little lemon and apple cider vinegar every now and then as a nice toner, and Vitamin E oil to remove scars
  • Carrie · 1 year ago
do you wash your hair with the vinegar? Baking soda??
  • sheerperfection · 1 year ago
Yes I usually rinse with vinegar and wash with baking soda, but lately I've been doing an olive oil and vinegar pre soak and then washing it with the baking soda. I only use Braggs Apple cider vinegar w/ amino acids

My can't live without beauty products are:

Mascara - current fave DiorShow, also love Maybelline Full N Soft, Max Factor 2000 calorie
Brows - current fave Lorac Brow pencil in Auburn - it has a spoolie at the end - perfect color match - makes all the difference in my over all look
SPF - current fave SKinMedica SPF 30 - I'm super fair - gotta use a high spf year round
Lipgloss - current fave LipFusion gloss in bloom - I have thin lips - this stuff defines my upper lip and I love the slight numbing tingle - I hate glosses that burn and hurt my lips.
Foundation - current fave Bobbi Brow oil free liquid foundation - Porcelain 0 is the only foundation that looks like I'm not wearing foundation
Under Eye Brightener - Smashbox Photo Op Under eye brightener. - it softens lines, and brightens - it's not a concealer - but it makes a huge difference without looking like I'm wearing heavy makeup.
Blush -Nars Cream Blush in Penny Lane and Guele de Nuit - soft not sticky, blendable and stays put all day. Oh and my HG blush is Smashbox Blush Rush in Charm from the Wicked Lovely Collection - still available at smashbox.com - it's a soft warm pink - I love it.

and good skin care is the best makeup. of course....
Skin Medica Ultra Sheer Moisturizer is rockin' my world right now.

I have used the same products all my life.
Aloe Vera Gel: I use it on my face, my body, it works great on my skin.
Oil of Olay: The old fashioned bottle (yellow). It's the old fashioned stuff, but they added sunscreen to it.
Smoothwear Compact Foundation by Cover Girl: It is a one step liquid to powder formula that takes seconds to apply. I am lazy in the morning, so I have to keep things simple.
LipSmackers brand lipbalm/lipgloss: It looks and feels like chapstick, is ultra moisturizing, super shiny and smells delicious. Mmm.
Pure Olive oil for conditioning the hair or moisturizing the feet, elbows and knees and of course for eating as it promotes health and beauty from within since it is one of the "food fats" essential for a healthy body.
Oh, and don't laugh, I use Cashmere Bouquet beauty soap. I know it is ancient, but, it works.
Also, a smile makes me look better.
And a cup of Ovaltine reduces stress which also makes me look better.

    :)

Lip Fusion... makes skinny lips look good
Nars... powder blush: Orgasm (pale & natural pink)
Getting my pale but long eyelashes tinted so I don't have to bother with mascara
Eye lash curler... makes ALL the difference - the old fashioned metal kind with rubber refills
SmashBox gloss... Icon (ohhhh the compliments) it's as close as I can come to the discontinued Bobbi Brown gloss, 'Fudge.' If anyone knows where there is some, please write me!!
Skin Care: Don't use soap, drink water, and I use Neo Strata Wrinkle Repair... it's really awesome and has greatly reduced deep lines around my mouth
  • Kristen · 1 year ago
OK girls...here's the skinny....I work for a dermatologist, and you DON'T need to spend a lot of money on skin care products.....Cetaphil cleanser and moisturiser from the drug store, and prescription Retin-A for the fine lines...it works like the most expensive masks and exfoliators!
  • marn · 1 year ago
Eyelash curler - dead serious, makes my eyes go POW & stand out.
Artisty mascara - the only think I can use on my sensitive eyes, and the brush for it is AWESOME.
Arbonne Awaken Sea Salt Scrub. YUM!!!
And I NEVER go to bed without putting chapstick on. It is a ritual (like brushing my teeth) and I hardy ever get chapped lips or coldsores! YEAH!
  • genuine*wild · 1 year ago
I still revel in the rosy color and fizzy taste of Bonne Bell Lip Smacker lip gloss in Dr. Pepper.

Aubrey Organics Blue Green Algae Skin Care line. It's SO natural I can pronounce all the ingredients. LOL. I also like The Body Shop's Moringa Body Butter and Eco-Lips Sport lip balm.
