Carrie and Danielle: What’s your form of genius?

  • bene · 1 year ago
I am really good at a lot of things. As Carrie do , I love a thing of beauty, I am particularly strung by the beauty in nature. I am a photograph and my pictures are beautiful.they always tell a story and they are too beautiful in a kind of scary way. Underneath the beauty lies...you know...dark waters. I am a good listener and I do understand how people feel, and try my best to make them feel better if they are down. I am a great writer, a great painter, a great cook, a great walker, a great friend, a great singer, a great aunt, great at making things cosy, a great reader and a great melodramatic(yeah, that too-wink,wink) . As you can tell , I can go on and on and on. I find it liberating and it makes me feel good to say out loud what i am great at. Before I really disliked myself and thought I did not deserve a place on this earth, I did not comprehend that I already had a place on this earth and that me playing small was not good for me or anybody else. Now I believe I am a person of importance and every single day I sing a song of my self in praise. It makes me happy and my heart is smiling within:)

I never thought of it as genius, but I send out cards, letters, small tokens, pages ripped out of magazines or newspapaers that reminded me of them - just something. I mail out at least one something to a friend or family member each week. I love to get mail, real snail mail and so I've started sending a lot of it. I live 1200 miles from my niece, so I mail her something every two weeks, just so we can keep in touch.

My genius is that I am sensitive and intuitive. I pick up on details that others may miss, and I often understand what is happening under the surface of things. This translates into an openness to both deep joy and deep pain, to knowing how to nurture, create and love passionately.

My geniuses too are many. One is in creating safe places where people can grow and heal. Whether it be my home, or in a conference room where I'm meeting a client for a coaching session.... Another is in "manifesting" -- making income happen. Another is in listening with my whole body, collecting ALL the data the other person is sending out. Another is beauty, esp. creating inviting and harmonious spaces that invite both connection and contemplation. Yet another is what one client just called my "merciless kindness" -- speaking the truth w/o pulling punches in my coaching work and with my loved ones. Yet another is in learning -- I'm always exploring some new domain and bringing it into my work, my play, my life. Last is in my ability to synthesize -- to bring many points of view and contributions together and see something new from all of it.

Thank you! Well said...me too! I feel the depth of everything, the complexity and the many, many layers. I also have an inherent knowingness of ancient wisdom which carries through into my Feng Shui and daily living. My body carries a natural sense of grace and beauty.

My genius is intuition. Like Danielle, I listen to others with purpose and intensity. I have a patient ear and others find it easy to talk to me. I feel deeply and give with much passion.

My "genius" is being able to focus on the sthrenghts of people and to consequently bring out the best in them. When I was younger, people's flaws and weaknesses irritated me, now I find that they are what makes them human. Perfection to me is boring. Imperfection, on the contary, can be very endearing.

Also, it's the second time I'm taking over a large project that has badly started and where all parties are at odds, and it's the second time I'm making a success of it, so I suppose that this capacity to turn around a situation and rally everyone around me and the objectives is somehow part my "genius"...

Trusting my intuition. I have made several major decisions in my life that may have seemed crazy and utterly impractical to an observer (even those who know me well), but they made perfect sense for me, and I never regretted them. I may not always be able to clearly express the reasons behind my decisions, but as long as I stay true to my instincts, I can be sure they were the right ones.

Solving people's problems and helping them sort issues out whether it's work related or personal. Not to sound cold but I think of "problems" as puzzles and I have a knack for figuring things out and "fixing" these puzzles. Fun AND satisfying!

I create beauty with gardening. I simply paint with flowers and plants. It's beauty for my soul.

I am good at coming up with systems. Coming up with new ways to work on specific tasks or monitoring the flow of some piece of work. I enjoy developing a streamlined, elegant solution for something that needs to be done every day. I am also great at wrapping presents, like Danielle!
  • Ellen · 1 year ago
    Compassion. Acceptance. Insight.
Like Danielle, I am good at wrapping presents and remembering obscure song lyrics. Also, seeing patterns, finding lots of different ways to get from point A to point B, helping people see new perspectives, encouraging and exhorting.
Like Carrie, I enjoy creating beauty. A friend calls me her "arbiter of style"....she has an idea, I make it happen.
My sweetheart says I am genius at getting people to open up and confide in me. Don't know why, but people have always shared their most secret and best-guarded thoughts with me.

I am really good at generating ideas and sharing knowledge. I come up with great ideas to solve big and little problems all the time. I also am constantly reading and sharing what I learn with others. I have an uncanny knack for sharing just the right bit of information that someone needs to hear at that time.

so you can create explosives out of gum and hairspray? Cool!

I called my business the Gilded Lily, because that is what I do. I take something that is okay and transform it into something awesome. It's actually a decluttering/decorating business, and ideally I would like to do that most of the time. However, what I have been doing for the past 7 years or so is "compliance and disclosure" for public companies. I write their disclosure documents and news releases, making their awful pieces of moose pasture sound like they contain tons of wonderful stuff - in a totally "legal" way.

(People always ask me for stock tips. My tip is, don't buy stocks. Instead, buy art, furniture, jewelry, designer clothes, organic food - the material things that help make the scenery of your life more beautiful.)

My genius is figuring out how things work, what isn't working, and a way to make it all happen. "There's always a way" is definitely my motto. I think my ability to see multiple options, and break things down into their parts to see how they fit together really helps this along. And I have a pun, joke and/or analogy for every situation! :P

I would have to say that my genius would be listening and observing body language..Im pretty sure i learnt that from Danielle from the way she's always listened to me. I also am rather good at making people laugh and hosting excellent parties!!
  • Jenny · 1 year ago
My genius is living big every day. I aspire to inspire others. I believe nothing is impossible until you say it is. I like to bring the unexpected into my life and the lives of my loved ones. Whether it's getting a tattoo, closing my restaurant and taking my whole staff on an adventure or letting my 4 year old eat ice cream for breakfast and watching his face light up. I like living outside the box as much as possible

I am a dynamic motivational speaker! Sometimes I surprise myself w how much I encourage myself. The power of life and death is in the tongue. With that said "I will be Dr. Ngonzi Truth Crushshon in 5 years....so I am Dr. Ngonzi Truth Crushshon"

Also, I'm an excellent EVENT/PARTY PLANNER.....which stems from my great time management skills. Ask my friends, I can attend 18 events in one night. LOL. I'm very organized and carry my daily planner (which is in my cell phone) w me wherever I go. MOST OF THE TIME, I AM ALWAYS PREPARED (umbrellas, snacks, chairs, etc.)!!! I plan/think ahead in my personal, professional and social life.

I find this the hardest question yet. For the past three years, I haven't been "master" at anything. For 12 years, I was a great teacher - I knew how to teach, how to respond, how to inspire and how to manage the occasionally violent teenager. I was well-liked and well-respected, and I mentored student teachers. I knew this was my form of genius. But it came with a price: I gave it my all, and when one of my students was killed in gang violence, I began to re-examine just how much of a difference I could make. Or should make. Since I left that profession, I have been starting new things; always the rookie of the team. I miss the confidence of expertise. But even though I don't feel like I'm at the top of my profession, like I was, I know there's one thing that's a constant: bravery. It took guts to choose the toughest school. It took guts to win over kids who had little reason to respect authority. And it took a lot of strength to walk away from something I loved because those kids deserve 100% dedication and I was honest enough with myself to know I couldn't give it to them anymore. I'm proud of that. So my form of genius must be: Courage.

I have a knack for making something out of nothing...or what seems to be nothing. Throwing a yummy dinner together from a seemingly empty pantry...putting together a special present...creating an art project for a class if kids...styling a room or a table. People are often surprised how I do big things with a small budget. I hate dollar stores and cheap quality stuff... so a lot of my inspirations come from nature and found objects. www.snickerdoodles.typepad.com

I'm good at finding information for other people. Maybe it's just an answer to a question that bugs them or maybe it's some news about something they're interested in. I'm good at giving people info they need and want.

I'm really good at figuring out how to get things done. At taking a really big project and turning it into managable pieces and then mapping out a timeline and task list to complete it. My husband thinks it's a gift I give to other people - I just get excited that other people let me help the with it. A big task, a fresh pena nd a clean notebook is my form of nirvana.

I am really good at being resourceful and being able to articulate a vision in a way that gets people behind it. According to one of my friends, I have an uncanny knack for seeing the interconnections and interrelations between resources and people better than most others. It's one of the kindest compliments that anyone has ever given to me.
