Jennifer!!! How nice to hear from you!! No, I think I am the only Cécile on C & D... At least I haven't seen anyone else... The weather sounds so womderful... and your French doors do too. I wondered where had you been? Talk to me about healing... I am quite interested... But this is off-topic, and I do not know if this is against the group's protocol... Anybody?

I have been busy getting ready for a talk I am facilitating on healing. all of life is about healing.
I also worked over the week end. I am a nurse and work at a hospice.
I live in a house built in the 40's and love the ever present and subtle sense that it is almost the same vintage as me. How did people live in those tiny kitchens. We lived for a whole winter before we altered it to be more in line with how we live today. Open plan with French doors to the sunny outside.
Space to invite people round. NZers are very casual and love easy open living spaces.
A big high has drifted over NZ and the clear blue sky and the sun remind me spring is on its way. I opened the whole house up for half an hour and let the Fresh air drift through The best house perfume of all Fresh air straight off the Tasman sea.
Are you the Cecile that does quite regular postings on Carrie and Danielle or are there 2 of you.

Oh Dear!! I am awfully sorry! We used to jave bad storms like that when I lived in the New York area. Coral Gables is a rsidential area within the Miami Metro Atea. It's old, by that I mean houses built in the 40'sd and fifties, but there are many newer beautiful homes. I live in Bay Harbor Island North of the Gables. My daughter lives in the Gables. I am staying with her, because the Nanny was let go, and I help with my granddaughter, and she is helping me save on gasoline.. I live 20 miles each way from work which happens to be in the commercial area of the Gables. I work for the County as a computer programmer and systems analyst.

I live in Wellington new Zealand. It is the middle of winter here and the whole country is having the most violent storms

Thank you for your reply! I am so exscited now.. I picked out the book from the shelf over a month ago. It almost jumped at me.. but I put it back, because I thought it kind of complicated... But Borders in Coral Gables has it, so I will pick it up tonigjt...

I am sure once I get started the biography part will make all the sense in the world, because right now I am not sure what you mean...

You are so lucky doing your style statement with a decent biography to work with. Give yourself plenty of time and play with it all
Carries and Danielles book is a must. The book is the map of the whole country. I found it really helpful to group the foundation words into families that are realated to each other. You do this and it only has to make sense to you. One of those groups of words will pop out at you and that when you can be sure you are on the right track
Another thing I found helpful was to get my 10 very favourite things that are mine and put them all together. this can be art work, vases. a photo, a book a shell anything that makes your heart sing.
Draw 9 squares on big piece of paper. and write the 10 things by name in the middle. Around the 8 outside squares write some describing or mood word that capture what those favourite things are all about. That will give you some good clues.
You can do the same with your favourite clothes and jewellery too. The things that make your eyes sparkle to put them on. The words for that can be a helpful reveal too.
Its work and its good work and fun too.
It can also be a great help in getting the clutter out of your life too. The stuff that is not your style statement and does not tell you your story.

Actually I recalculated my age: won't be 63 until March 21, 1009. So we are a year apart..lol

I amswerd my own question: Yes, I ned to get the book and do the homework. It won't be this week end as my son, and his girlfriend are coming to town, and we are having a Birthday Party for him. But I will shoot for the following week-end.
I will keep you abreast of my progress.

Thank you for your reply. I think we are fortunate to have witnessed the apex of NASA, and the faces -sans enhancements-that graced the major fashion magazines when we were in our teens... Actually, no I haven't seen In the Shadow of the Moon, but I will search for it. Yes, I did see Aldrin at a book signing, and my eyes got watery...
I need to work on my Style Statement. I know this sounds totally ignorant, but, can you walk me through it? Do I need the workbook/book? I need a mentor!!!! lollollol

More, Canadian Living, Canadian Parents, Canadian House and Home, and The New Scientist. Real Simple would work better if there were a Canadian version, as so many things mentioned in it aren't available here. There used to be a great magaazine that profiled strong , interesting women who accomplished things - I wish I could remember the name of it. I think it went under because they were very particular about advertizing, and wanted to avoid all those cosmetic ads that made women feel they needed to be "better" by buying a product. Wouldn't it be great if there were something out there for our tender young girls?

Ooh! So glad you mentioned these...have been into Red for years now (love it) and am getting into Psychologies - I enjoy the responsibility-based approach to self-help. I was into the UK Marie Claire for years as well, but haven't been finding it as good a read in the past year or so. Haven't read Eve in ages - need to pick it up again.

I am 61. I so agree with you about Lauren H. She is lucky with her facial bones. It gives those wrinkles something glorious to hang off.The gap in her teeth is way cute too.

I find old faces really beautiful. The eyes being the windows of the soul. Have you seen in the Shadow of the Moon. The astronauts are all in their 70s and their eyes and faces just glow with exuburance and intelligence. No "work" done there.

Oh, forgot to mention two more real favorites - Cutie and Kera - both are Japanese teen fashion magazines. Fantastic for their displays of creativity and non-conformity in dress. Totally different from American teenagers. I send them to my 16 year old sister for inspiration (she wants to be a stylist). I get loads of inspiration for myself from them, too.

Less frequent buys, but always enjoyed: Utne, Wallpaper, Allure, The Believer, Games, British Vogue, Giant Robot, Stop Smiling, anything on photography or digital darkroom techniques, anything on graphic design.

I am 63. Jean Shrimpton is now in her 70's I suppose. W has been dead for years...;-( But The Shrimp married and opened a hostal in merry olde England!!! and does not look at all like she used to. I prefer to remember her the way she was, but on the other hand this opennesss humanizes her. I think that those were the faces that were real. I want to think that in the sixties, before all this palstic surgery models were the real thing like Hutton, and Graham... I seldom look twice at Moss or any of the others because I know they are all on drugs and that makes me lose the awe...Do you know what I mean?

Some of my favorites are Women's Health, Oxygen, FitRx. These magazines are full of wonderful health and fitness tips, articles workouts and more. Also love In Style and O Magazine.

Bazaar is my all-time favorite. The clothing and accessories featured in teh magazine are amazing and I love the section on what works for particular age groups.

Somerset Studio (full of amazing mixed media ideas and details)
Cloth Paper Scissors (inspiring mixed media ~ always something new to learn about. Really makes me want to play!)
Quilting Arts (love the color combos and design details, even though I don't quilt)
Digital Studio (makes me want to learn Photo Shop)
Artful Blogging (a quarterly magazine full of amazing creative blogs ~ I especially love the illustration and challenge blogs)
