Carrie and Danielle: The Girl Parts: Rehabilitating the “V” Word

What is truly funny is the differential between 'penis' and 'vagina' - almost all adults can say the former with a (mostly) straight face, and I'll bet nine out of ten stumble when saying 'vagina'...that is, if they EVER say it.
    How did that happen?

Its incredible, and somewhat sad, I think, that women have so much trouble talking about their own bodies. I'm a woman too, and its not like I don't understand what you're talking about when you're talking birth or menstruation. Its like we build the awkwardness by not being open with each other.

actually, just today my almost 5 yr old son said, "mama, every one is different you know. Different colored eyes...different clothes...different penises...different vaginas." Yep.

So true....this hits the nail right on the head. BTW, please do an article on 'penis' another forbidden word.

    Great insight...loved the article!

This is an wonderfully written article Jennifer and all very true ! Strange how that word became taboo in the first place.

I am looking forward to future articles.

By the way, I believe I was born by a vaginal birth....
