  • periodic deprivation is a good thing - for everyone. I've never met a kid who didn't seem to respect their folks for limits that were based on having more quality time together - provided that that quality time actually happens.
  • yup- and after reading that you baked with your son recently, I proposed to my older son (aka computer addict) that we make Cinnamon twists -his favorite- this afternoon and he actually channeled his 5 year old self as he said, "Yeah! can we have hot chocolate too?"
  • Periodic deprivation. If only adults could get this concept. Last year, we were considering getting my 13-yo a Wii, that is, until I saw how much trouble it was to get it; people were standing in line at 5am to SPEND $400. Standing in line to GET $400, I could see. Needless to say, we never bought one and my son never mentioned it again. Sometimes waiting is good for everyone to re-consider and make better decisions. That's what I'm trying to teach my children. But as you say, things do change.
