    You are so right, Pearl. Love letters embody that fantastic, exciting tension between lovers that only exists when something is separating them. Another thing that makes them so amazing is that they tend to paint a picture of the Ideal You - your lover's words praise a version of you that you'd like to believe exists and that becomes impossible not to treasure: 'someone sees me as a goddess'.

    I've been happily married for 4 years and still have a letter written to me 10 years ago by a married man (to whom I was also deeply attracted) - I don't know if I'll ever be able to throw it away.

    Hmmmm...perhaps this is why I seem drawn, often against my better judgement, to long distance romances. While riddled with the pain of separation, they also allow for plenty of soulful romancing, often in the form of the written word.

    The scenario obviously meets a need for me in some fashion.
