Carrie and Danielle: Special Friday Edition - What’s your word of the week?

Blithe. It makes me feel a breeze flowing, cooling my skin and tousling my hair. Refreshing and renewing. My work load increased for the next month, yet I am scheduling in a bicycle ride around Tervuren with my husband and looking at two Art Nouveau apartments next week. Blithe reminds me to make it a priority to feel and enjoy!

magical... when I'm at my best, when I am my most positive self.. when I'm full of constuctive energy... I know I invite "magic" into my life by truly believing that nothing is impossible and that thoughts do become reality...and I then become "magical" myself and inspirational to my entourage... This week, I'm going to remind myself as often as possible that life is and that I am... magical...

Gypsy.
This is a reminder to myself of the freedom-loving, in-the-moment me, the me that loves without attachment, that dances with abandon, that lives in divine.
This may not be precisely how the word is defined, but it's what it meant to a starry-eyed girl in bare feet growing up in Montreal.

Harmony: Living in harmony. Whether it is a pleasing combination of elements in a home, the order and harmony of the universe and the good energy sent and received, or the structure of a familial relationship, a workplace relationship, or a circle of friends, living in harmony is the essence of peace. I work on making each structure -- my home, workplace, family, and friendships -- a harmonious, peaceful unit.
Thanks for the opportunity to stretch my "stiff" mind this morning.

Eroticism. I just got back from a conference where one of the keynote speakers was Esther Perel, a "wise woman" couples therapist who has written a book called Mating in Captivity: Unlocking Erotic Intelligence. She explores how couples can keep the eroticism in long-term relationships. How to balance comfort and edge, security and adventure so that we can want what we have. She says that nurturing eroticism in our relationships and within family life is an act of open defiance against the message/belief that passion fades in long-term relationships and marriages. I highly recommmend the book!

Progress. Each day I'm moving a little bit closer toward where I need to be. I sometimes don't quite know where or what it is that I'm trying to get to, but I'm moving forward and learning more each day. The destinations will become apparent soon and even then I hope they just prove to be milestones. I'm enjoying the journey.

Goofy. A lot of times, I am too uptight. This week I am going to laugh more when my kids misbehave (not permissiveness, but more jovial in my approach). I'm going to passionately kiss my hubby when he comes home. I'm going to sing and dance all day. I'm very capable of being a goofball, but that part of me has gotten covered up since I've had kids.

I hear you....last year at this very moment I was 25 pounds thinner! I can't even believe that....getting up everyday, working out for an hour before I would go to work. I looked great, felt great. Unfortunately in order to deal with life struggles over the past 12 months I've used food as a comfort.....at least I'm aware and can now at this point work on taking those pounds back off:-) You can do it too!

Dominion: both accepting and affirming that I have dominion over my day, my thoughts, my actions...that affirming this makes the feelings of panic and stress disappear, and allows my natural grace and joy to come through, loud and clear. Dominion over the little details (means no procrastination) and dominion over my mood (no sleep-walking through life). Dominion over myself, means freedom to let others practice their own dominion too!
Have a joy-filled day!

JOY. I'm too focused on self-improvement, which ironically can drive me straight to the refrigerator . . . but that's another topic.
I'm trying to make room for more joy in my life. I've taken a big step; I got a new job yesterday. When they called to tell me I was selected, I experience a moment of pure joy - yay!

Clarity. I am sorting through what is important to me lately, in work and relationships, and I miss that sense of clarity that existed when i was younger. Something worked or it didn't and I moved on. This whole grey area has been overused in certain circumstances- by doubting how I know I feel, for example. And it does strike me that this is an aspect of refinement, the second word of my style statement. Phew- I already feel a bit clearer.

Fun. I long to be better at living in the moment, enjoying the laughter and joy that young children bring to our lives, rather than focusing on what hasn't been done yet or small irritants that won't matter half an hour later.

serendipity. the more i can live in the moment, without grasping, being attached, taking anything too seriously or having strong preconceived notions about what SHOULD be happening (as opposed to what is), the happier i am. practicing this helps make life more of an interesting adventure than a series of disappointments. (and no expectations isn't the same as low expectations; it's admitting to yourself that you can't really control all that much in this world, and trying too hard only causes suffering.) and of course this is all easier said than done. peace, kat

Cultivate! I planted my style statement garden a few months ago: signed up for Friday Focus, bought the book when it came out, started a style statement journal and devoured the questions. Then I let the seeds germinate: kept in touch with this delightful Q&A, and really started to pay attention to what I love and what I don't. Yesterday, I revisited the book and the journal, and finally completed steps 1-6 in the definition chapter. And something amazing happened. My style statement sprung through the soil and it wasn't at all what I had imagined it would be. Both words surfaced unexpectedly from work and word play. My 80% is Cultivate(feels real to reveal it here!). It is both a celebration of who I am and a challenge to move me forward through transition. My 20% is Light. Both the adjective and the noun. And now, to bloom.

I have two words, playful and cherished! I want to have playdates with my self and have some much wanted fun, life has been way to serious lately. Cherished means taking care of myself and loving myself everyday! It doesnt have to be BIG things, just small pleasures that make my heart sing. Today I bought a pot of pink roses for my desk, they light up my day. I love water and on my way home I walked in the wood alongside a river , and it made me feel so incredible happy and peaceful. Natures makes me feel connected with myself again, a bit like a child, happy and carefree!I adore that feeling!

I have a word for the Year and it is SLOW. My brother (who I consider very successful) once said that he tends to make mistakes when he is in a hurry. I try to remember that when I am rushing to do things quickly. I move my body quickly and often end up briused. Mentally, when I rush through the important details of my job, I screw up and people notice. I think I learn more when I am slow, in thought and movement. And of course I just love my yoga because it it such a great opportunity to practice being slow.

now. I so often live my life within the ideas of "later, better, when," but there is so much possibility that exists in the "now". An oxymoron, perhaps, but it is in the now that the possibility comes to fruition. All the dreams, all the desires, all the hopes become *something* when we act. I'm looking forward to a week of sooner instead of later, good instead of better, and now instead of when. This feels good.

Yea! I am glad you are doing an "Ask Carrie & Danielle column. I have discovered that from going through the Style Statement book that it's given me cause to really dig in, down deep inside, and think about what I wrote and why. I've realized that many of the questions are about what is in my life now - or I have perceived them that way and that is how I answered the questions. The refelcting of "what do I really want?" in my life has me changing many of the answers. I am still not certain as to what my Style Statement is. I keep shifting between two sides of me, the fun, spontaneous, bouncey-trouncey, blue-jeans me, and the well thought out and well planned elegant marble staircase and beaded evening gown side of me.

W A N D E R L U S T I think of it in a broader sense as more about time and place, point a to point b. The urge to travel can mean much more than wanting to go on vacation to Disneyland. I'm kinda big on compound words, and wanderlust has such a nice feel and well as alluring individual words.
