When I can hear myself say positive encouraging words it just makes them so. Most times anyway. But I recently have started to try and step out of the moment and get to the root of my negativity or unhappiness. Most times I can talk and pray myself out of it and move past it.

Re: Positivity; How Do You Keep It Alive?

I love reading success stories and similarly inspired movies. The right movie can completely change my mood and remind me of who I really am.

Re: Positivity; How Do You Keep It Alive?

Usually I meditate and do yogic breathing in the morning but I was so down yesterday I couldn't even do that. Instead I reached out to a friend who lovingly talked to me for an hour from Mumbai. Then she called me again at 5am her time to make sure I was ok. That's positivity at its best-- when your friends have it for you when you don't. BTW, it turns out that I had accidentally had some refined sugar which made me all crazy and depressed.

Re: Positivity; How Do You Keep It Alive?

Honestly? It's hard - it's also one reason I started my blog - to force myself to find happiness/beauty to post every day.

Re: Positivity; How Do You Keep It Alive?

Sometimes I think positivity is overrated. Recently I had some friends who said I wasn't "positive" enough because I was deeply upset by the events in Gaza. Sometimes we need to feel our grief. For me it always comes back to the earth. I imagine that grief being compost that renews the earth. When I really need to, I literally just find a spot to lie on the ground and feel connected again. Singing birds, the promise of spring, mentally planning the garden... these things fill my heart with joy in the most difficult times, reminding me that we are all connected in joy as well as in sorrow.

Re: Positivity; How Do You Keep It Alive?

Tough question especially because I just has a buddy that let me know that in terms of positivity I don't...well...keep it alive. I know! Tsk tsk! Too often I think about the rusty, old, worn-out lining around the cloud instead of the bright, sparkling, silver one. For instance, I just had a wonderful birthday with all the people I love and instead of focusing on the fun we all had, I felt let down because a certain guy phoned a day too late. I know! Tsk tsk indeed! It's something I'm working on. I need to be grateful for what I have instead of longing for what I don't have, look at the glass half full not half empty, and in the genius words of the genius Mony Python - always look on the bright side of life! The good news: I do encourage positivity in others! I give laughs, empathy, concern, support, cheers, applause, and two-thumbs up to the people I love...now if I could just apply this to me...

Re: Positivity; How Do You Keep It Alive?

I write about disheartening things like animal abuse, environmental degradation, and disease on a regular basis. To stay positive, I focus on all the successful actions--small and large--that make the world a better place for all beings. There are countless people out there who are making a difference. They give me hope for the future.

Re: Positivity; How Do You Keep It Alive?

I do things that make me and others laugh and I keep connected with those I love.

Re: Positivity; How Do You Keep It Alive?

By keeping my eyes "on the things unseen" as the apostle Paul urged.

Re: Positivity; How Do You Keep It Alive?

I allow myself to be angry/pissy/sad, but just for a few hours. Starting from the fact that I have my health... and then I move on to the big or small things that I consider as blessings... my husband, my family, my friends, the love I receive every single day...
One of my personal motos is "Problems are disguised opportunities"... So I ask myself... "What am I missing here? This is happening for a reason..." and I am trying to cool down and think of the hidden opportunity.
Finally remembering the chinese proverb: "Luck knocks on smiling doors"!!!!!

Re: Positivity; How Do You Keep It Alive?

I say 'thanks' and recognize (sometimes later than I should) that there is a lesson to be learned and if something is falling away from my life, it's making room for what's coming. But, the best and most immediate way to stay positive during those times of negativity, is to remind myself (or my daughter will) to trust 'the plan.'

Re: Positivity; How Do You Keep It Alive?

I revel in the promise of these new times and work to consciously track my interaction with whatever reactions I am experiencing. How blessed I am to have 2 healthy beautiful beings in my life & to savor every day, and every moment with them.
Oh, and on a side note, exercise helps too - ha ha! And laughing at myself! Keeping things real & not too serious! :-)

Re: Positivity; How Do You Keep It Alive?

I try to forgive myself when I just can't be positive. I'm typically an incredibly positive person, but have been struggling with staying positive at work and in my volunteer activity for the last month or so. I am thinking that for me to keep my positive outlook alive, I need to give myself more space from my professional and volunteer careers and reground myself with my family. Maybe some travel with my husband, siblings and parents would be good to refresh and recharge me.

Staying positive is just a matter of me making an affirmative choice to be positive when I am operating in my optimal zone.

Re: Positivity; How Do You Keep It Alive?

Meditation - it is like plugging into the Source each and every day. I take in nature and realize how little I am and how big the world is. I think about the life of a tree, and all it faces and how it remains strong and straight. I work with my hands. I listen to the words and gestures of friendship all around me and let them fill me up. I look in the eyes of a child. I am still, and look around me and observe all that I have, how lucky I am.

Re: Positivity; How Do You Keep It Alive?

gratitude baby. and a healthy dose of perspective.

Re: Positivity; How Do You Keep It Alive?

Giving Thanks for another day.Another day full of opportunities to do it greater things!!!

Re: Positivity; How Do You Keep It Alive?

The quote kind of relates to how I keep it alive. I let myself know that even if something sucks, it'll get better again because I've been strong in the past.
Giving thanks as well also helps. Taking breaks so I don't get overwhelmed in the day-to-day annoyances. Being around people who keep me positive. Treating myself well.

Re: Positivity; How Do You Keep It Alive?

I have learned to stay in the moment and feel whatever emotions come up. I then look to the light at the end of the tunnel, envision what could be, and move towards that light. It's in remembering the peaks and valleys of life, and that this too shall pass, that I stay positive. It also helps having a chronically depressed negative cup is half empty father as a constant reminder of who I don't want to become.

Re: Positivity; How Do You Keep It Alive?

I realize that often, it is what it is and look for the lesson - how not to repeat it next time

Re: Positivity; How Do You Keep It Alive?

Taking time to appreciate what I have, staying connected to the friends in my life who support a positive outlook and working with my own coach!

Re: Positivity; How Do You Keep It Alive?

I think of solutions, very small ones and some bigger ones. This keeps me moving and allows me to stay resilient. The positive energy continues to flow even when things are difficult or frustrating. I make a deliberate choice to look for the good in each day. Prayer in action is what fuels my positive thought and gives me the strength to always be hopeful.
