this sounds a lot like a book i finished reading not too long ago which is along the same lines. it was called helping me, help myself by beth lisck. she tried out a different self help guru for every month of a year. same concepts i guess, different approaches.

i’ve never really been a terrible housekeeper, but i’ve spent a good portion of my adult life living alone.
in march, my boyfriend will be moving into my tiny one bedroom apartment with me.
so this means that i need to downsize my belongings AND get better organized.
i don’t want my boyfriend to move in with me and then have our relationship slowly fall to pieces because we bicker over a messy living space.

What amazes me most about that book is that it is this tiny, compact piece of text, but it has such incredibly enormous insight in it. It takes me such a short time to read it, and I get so much out of it. I think this is why I go back to it time and again --

On our site, Matt has written a great deal about how to deal with the constant in-flow of toys. His daughter is fortunate to have two sets of caring grandparents, but they ALWAYS want to give toys ... especially toys with batteries. He talks about how he has talked with them about giving of their time with gifts like museum and zoo memberships. Check them out! I think they're great pieces ... Who knew there was pork-themed pop art?
I appreciate your itemization of the different types of clutter in our lives. I too have suffered from schedule clutter. Its a lot less so now that caring for my 2 year old is my focus... but there are other forms of clutter to conquer. How to deal with the crap toys that come our way from well intended family who love to 'see' their gifts in action. Oi!
