Carrie and Danielle: Love: Complicated, or Simple?

  • Eleni · 10 months ago
Love as a meaning is simple. You either love someone or you don't. The complicated part comes with the interaction (which is the key element here... it takes two to tango). How much I love you, how much you love me, what are you willing to do for me, sacrifice for me and vise-versa... For me a word that comes together with love is unconditionally. You love someone for what they are; the good staff and the bad staff, the ups and the downs, otherwise it is not love. It is something else, like passion... Love is simple. People on the other hand are not!

Both. but in its purest form, it is really very very simple. And that is what makes it so beautiful. It can't be denied.

When it gets down to it, love is simple, but learning it to express it can get complicated. I simply love my 9 year old daughter, but expressing my love in the way she can receive it is a challenge. As she gets older, I aspire to love her in a healthy and encouraging way, vs a smothering, anxious & controlling way. My guess is that each of us receives love in our own way and learning that is what can make love complicated, but it's also what allows for extravagance & custom-love!

I am my own worst enemy when it comes to my love life ~ by keeping it simple I make it very complicated. :)

Love is complicated. The idea of love in itself leads to many more branches. There is all the different types of love: family love(and all the other loves within that love), romantic love, love for a pet, love for a good friend, love for a "fringe" friend, love for a regular friend, love for your enemies...and so on and so forth.

And then each type of love is complicated within itself. Since love is generally an interaction between two or more people then you must always take into consideration how the other people are feeling, what they are thinking, what their beliefs are...and again the list goes on and on.

So, simply put, my thoughts are that love is complicated.

So complicated right now...14 years, three kids, job transfers and a house build are leaving little time for nurturing our marriage. Love in general though so simple...the love I hold for my hubbie and family is always there and true despite the daily challenges.

I feel love is as easy as breathing and as important. Of course, sometimes it is hard to breathe as it is hard to love; not complicated but sometimes not simple either. And if simple, not easy.

Real love is capable of making a very complicated situation dead simple.

All those little details and complications that are a big problem when you're with the wrong person don't seem to matter as much when you are with the right person.

You love each other - that's what matters - above all else.

Mental gymnastics are complicated: Relationships are complicated. Love, on the other hand, can't be forced, grasped for or earned through any such thing, and somehow, yes, I do think it maintains its simplicity.

Love is simple. Human beings are complicated.

Great comment! I totally agree with that.
To me, love is very simple. It's either there or it's not. You can't force it. Hoewever humans have over complicated it with all kinds of relationship guides etc.

Well, I'd like to think that LOVE is simple....like Eryka Badu sings "It could all be simple, but you'd rather make it hard". Why do we make things that should be simple, so hard? From a psychological standpoint, behavior is learned, what you think affects how you feel and what you do.....or how you formed early attachments to caregivers (parents, etc.) affect how you currently relate to others.....Is your view of the world that it's a fun loving place and most people are inherently good....or is it people are out of what they can get....or is it a mixture.....

And from a simpler standpoint...people bring past relational baggage into new relationships...and this makes it complicated.

However, there are ways to uncomplicate things. If both parties are willing to:

COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY (listen, understand and respond appropriately)
WORK ON FINANCES ($ money or the lack of can greatly affect the intimacy)
DEVELOP INTIMACY (What is intimacy? is it sex or love or cuddling?)

These also happen to be the 3 things that make/break a relationship
