Carrie and Danielle: Jonathan Mead asks: What’s right with your life?

  • Pema · 1 year ago
I am living my dream! One of them, at least, there are so many. But I've been chasing THIS one a long time...I am writing full time, freelance and personal projects, a new play, a novel, all getting fair attention from my pen. Yesterday I exhausted myself in the office...only to realize at the end of the day, I didn't have to go home and get some writing done...because the writing was my work! Hallelujah for what's right with life.
  • Jonathan Mead · 1 year ago
    Pema,

That is really awesome, congratulations to you. I hope that someday my pen will feed me. Sometimes my pens refuses to ink (thought congestion) and I lose my patience with it. But I always seem to come crawling back.

I'm fortunate in that my life centers around creativity, storytelling, images, words, sound, movement, music. I get to write, make films and share ideas, thoughts, feelings and stories -- and sometimes I get paid to do it! I have a lot of freedom to pursue the muse and the ability to fulfill my sense of adventure and curiosity. I also have a lot of love in my life, which makes homecomings sweet and happy.
  • bene · 1 year ago
I am getting to know my self and my strengths, for one. I am much happier about my life , I am mote at peace being who I am. I used to lead a very superficial life. My nirvana was shopping, drinking( partying) and guys, guys ,guys!s To my surprise that did not make me happy. It made me feel empty and depressed. I have managed to turn my life around 360 degrees. I live with less and for less, so to speak. I enjoy the small things in life and really appreciate good food. I am becoming a little housewife..in some areas...I might add..iI do have a lot of dustbunnys under my bed. I use my creativity everyday and I love it. I take long walks outside and enjoy libraries and cafees as much as the next person.

What is right for my life right now is I am traveling to numerous places in Europe. I have had a list of life goals and worked through them before I was 30, not realizing how much I was capable of back when I was 15 and 16 formulating who I wanted to be and what I wanted to do and how long it would take to accomplish if I pushed. Now I am spending time in Europe regenerating the who I want to be, when I want to be it list. Meeting new people, seeing new things, experiencing a new way of greeting someone are all the right things in my life right now.

A side benefit is that by moving I can more easily let go fo the bad habits I formed over the past 10 years and release some friendships which are no longer positive forces in my life.

    In a year, who knows?

A handful of the things in my life that are right: my 3 year old is right (I'm learning that even when he's obviously wrong- his deductive reasoning and genuine thoughtfulness trumps my "adult" logic! :), my 18 month old's chubby cheeks and "puleeeese" with a sweet grin is right, my husband's love for disorder is SO right for my controlling clean freak nature!!!, my time devoted to knowing and growing in my relationship with God is right.

My husband's love for me and his 12-year old boy sense of humor. Living in New York City. Fabulous women friends who inspire me. Having the good fortune of knowing Rachel Lloyd of Girls Educational and Mentoring Services (GEMS) and Cathy Douglass of inMotion - and working with both of them to achieve their visions.

I'm on my way to my dream by getting my masters in journalism. I'm focusing on becoming a better partner and it's going really well. I'm becoming more self-confident and less of a worrier, I'm practicing radical self-acceptance everyday.
I'm trying to eat better, and exercise more, but always accepting my body as is.
I'm making wiser decisions - decisions based on my happiness rather than revenge or anger.
I'm making time for family and appreciating their existence in my life.

My dear friends are what's so right in my life! No matter how busy they are or consumed with life and work, they are always enveloping me with their love and a sense of safety, security and a healthy dose of fun!

I am surrounded by people who love me very much. I am very lucky in that I have a roof over my head, a vehicle, and a secure job. My self-awareness is right. My intuition is right. My love for all my nieces and nephews and how blind and unconditional and unselfish that is is RIGHT. My priorities are right. My vision is RIGHT.

Every new Sunrise, every surprise, my wife, my home, and how I feel right now.
  • Jonathan Mead · 1 year ago
    I'll second that.
  • Ramona · 1 year ago
-I have a stable job in this unpredictable economy.
-I love the person I am (and am becoming).
-I was more than lucky to have been able to buy a house, with a fixed rate 30-year mortgage, that I can afford.
-I love the feeling of home ownership.
-I am managing my relationships well.
-I am going to apply to law school even though I scared to death that I won't get in...

I recently e-mailed my best girlfriends to tell them that I love them fiercely because I think spreading love is the only way to get through scary times. I'm so happy to see that so many people are so grateful for the love they have in their lives.

I'm no different. My husband is the most right thing in my life. He listends as I say truly stupid and hurtful things, and then still lets me apologize (and accepts it) later. Like last night. I owe him something lovely today, poor boy.

Right now I feel that my career and home life are right in my life.

I started a new job in September and I'm learning a ton (which I love) and I enjoy getting to know new people on the job.

Also, today is my 8th Wedding Anniversary (14 years together) so I'm feeling that is right in my world. :)
  • debbierodgers · 1 year ago
There are so many things right for me right now.

Being married is right for me, too, Carrie. So is living by Bible standards, being in the country, and being in touch with friends & family.

Some days I get dizzy thinking about all the RIGHT things in my life!
  • Licarrit · 1 year ago
My big, full, crazy, chaotic life! I've stopped making excuses for the "messiness" of my life and just embraced it. My Style Statement actually helped clarify this for me. Refined Bold means that some areas of my life are as precise as algebra, where others are chaotic as the universe but it is all good!
  • Jonathan Mead · 1 year ago
    Licaritt,

Good for you. I love the mess. I try to control it, and sometimes I win. Sometimes I don't. When I embrace the mess though, I find all this interesting creativity that doesn't seem to flow as well with everything tucked away in a neat little place.

Bing able to work from anywhere is right for me. Especially since this morning I get to sit and write facing Lake George with tea and a chocolate croissant. Getting to co-work int he same space with my dad this week is also a treat. I have been picturing just this view and sitting in just this location to work for a few weeks now, and it feels great to be here.

The one BIG thing that is right in my life right now is my gym. It has saved my life, literally. My trainer opened a crossfit gym in Lynnwood, WA (Locals Gym)partnering with one of my favorite other trainers from my our old gym. We do crazy stuff like wall balls, burpees, lot's of pull up's, flip tractor tires, it is addictive and I am stronger than I have ever been in my life. I look forward to going everyday, they are my other family.

For me, it's all about family. Five years ago I would never have expected to say this, but now it simply doesn't matter what happens during the day, when I know I can go home to my wife and daughter (15 months old this week!), and of course our two cats.
  • Susie Hutchinson · 1 year ago
So nice, I couldn't agree more.

I laugh when I hear people say TGIF, because I have a job that I love and don't vare whether it's Friday or Monday. I'm very grateful for that because I see so many people just trying to 'get through' the day.

I also have a great wife and love where I live here in Orlando away from the cold and wet of the UK.

    What's not right?
  • Maya · 1 year ago
I wrote a post in answer to your question 2 days back at
    http://www.thinkmaya.com/2008/10/12/whats-right...

In short - "Here and now. I stand at a juncture in my life where I experience nothing but sheer joy. I love my life for everything that happened. I love my life for everything that did not happen. For my experiences with depression and my survival. For my struggles during my pregnancy and my healthy children. I love my life for all the people that have touched it - in big ways and small. And I love myself for my love for life "

It was a wonderful thought to start this meme and ask this question, Jonathan. Positive thoughts and energy do wonders!

Where I live - feels like home. My practical new budget - knowledge is power. Income that allows me to enjoy life and invest in myself. A steady job that I've carved out for myself with hard work and a little sacrifice. A constant desire to incorporate exercise into my life and the discipline to do it. The support of family and friends. The ability to create new opportunities and the guts to name new desires.
    A few things :)

My journey right now...it's taking a while. Longer than I'd like, but having three kids doesn't leave much time for spiritual discovery sometimes. Reading, writing, drawing, meditating (even if it's a during a dreamy nap) all are bringing my closer to where I want to be.
Being a Mom is perfect for me right now, absolutely perfect...that birngs me great peace and reassurance at times when I feel I am not doing as much as I'd like in other areas.

I wanted to say, "Today, this is not so easy to answer." Then, as I wrote those words, I actually felt the heaviness lifting. I'm here and that has to be what's right - right?

My sweetheart who is ever loving and patient; who trains me everyday how to have fun and bask in the pleasures of life; who makes me laugh.

The synchronicities around fulfilling my dream to be in the musical "Miss Saigon" (a dream of 19 years):
    - That a production happened in my new neighborhood after I moved out of my old place
    - My huge closet mirror that my aunt/landlady installed without me asking. I practically have my own one-woman dance floor in my room. It was as if she knew I was going to need it for practicing choreography.
We are showing in 10 days!

My roommate/landlady Aunt who wants me to stay with her so that I can save what I would be paying for rent for a downpayment for a house; who slices up mangoes for me and puts them in ziploc bags ready for me to take to work for lunch; who does my laundry because I don't have time as I'm always at rehearsals.

My chiropractor Dr. Kim (www.drkimsf.com) who makes sure my body is aligned so I can continue fulfilling my dreams.

My colors! I got them done by www.jenniferbutlercolor.com. And now I love shopping. That's a miracle for someone like me who abhorred it!

PAX Programs (www.understandmen.com). That I can love and appreciate the men in my life just the way they are and just the way they're not.

Being unmarried and not having kids at this moment of my life is right for me =^) What a relief that my biological clock has been silenced by other forms of creative outlets (such as theater).

My girlfriends are right for me and my guy friends as well. Especially the one who leaves me voicemail messages of Spanish serenades.

Harbin hot springs is right for me.

That I earn enough for all the good things I want in life.

Blogging is right in my life. It is something that I never thought I would enjoy so much. It is just filling up so much in my life that wasn't working. I have also never really had many close friends and one of my goals this year had been to make an effort to be a friend and allow myself to have friends. It's working!

My path, being able to see it, feel it...and when I can't, I have finally come to a place where I can surrender to gravity and today. My friends. My health. Outlook and attitude are now parallel with my objectives. Working with C&D. My Styles Statement. Being introduced to JM. Dude. Cheers. Dating again - my "come hither" powers are dialed.

I guess the bottom line is timing, insight and oxygen.

I have this feeling, deep down, residing in this very wonderful place, somewhere that keeps me sane beyond reason, that my helter-skelter existence is all part of the plan, and that all the things I do, all my odd jobs, the random chances i take, activities I choose to be a part of, never entirely sure why, or if they we're the right decisions... they are all kind of in this way I can't really see at the moment, integral parts of something that will unfold masterfully for the rest of my life. It's all good. It's all right. How's that?

Now I'm going to go back to being skeptical ; )

What's right: me letting go and waking up continuously. The way the light comes in the window in the middle of the night. Knowing that the real thing is to love and not get love---the formula is already perfect. How the Santa Ana winds remind me of those moments when I felt content and perfect in childhood, waiting for The Helms Man. That I am hopeful. That I am determined. That I can almost touch my big dream. Caramels from Surfa's. My husband's heart and his willingness to listen and learn and teach. The sweet new angel in our lives--- Super Cooper the Wonder Dog who reminds me how important it is to be genuinely friendly. What's right with my life is that I could continue writing about this subject for quite some time...

What a fantastic question- although lately nothing has felt right! I suppose I should be looking on the brighter side and focusing on what is going right! :) Good- so here is my list!
I love living south of downtown- I feel close enough to the city, but far enough that I don't feel the city. I just graduated and it feels good! I have many friends- some close- others are great aquaintances that we share a quick laugh through out the day. I have husband committed to us, and who loves me unconditionally. I am on my way to a great career- even though I am just starting- it's only going to get better from here! I am happy with my small family: me my husband and our 2 dogs. :) knowing that my savior loves me- and he knows ME. There are times in my life that I know I am supposed to be where I am for a reason- and I love finding out why!
  • 1Epiphanee · 1 year ago
Similar to Danielle there are just too many things that have been going WRONG. SO this is a great question for me right now as it allows me to focus on the positive. So what is going right?

    1. My roof has finally been fixed so it's no longer raining indoors
    2. I have good team dynamics within the projects I'm working on
    3. I have a family that absolutely supports me in every way possible
    4. I have at least one friend I can count on through all the madness

I am constantly meeting friends who continue to inspire, challenge and support me. I am having time to spend with my 6 and 3 year old nieces, precious ages, stellar little people/teachers. Thanks for reminding me to think about this. xo Kristen Bond, Clothing Artist.
