Carrie and Danielle: If you had a totally open day, every day, what 4 or 5 things would you fill it with?

  • Tara · 1 year ago
I love my job, so I'd still go to work. I'd cook something fabulous for dinner, potter around the garden, watch a movie & go for a ride with the kids. Actually, nearly a normal day - without the shitty housework!
  • Joannie · 1 year ago
I would walk by the river just as the sun is coming up. I would write in the morning, read in the afternoon, visit with family or friends off and on throughout the day, meditate in the evening.
  • Julia · 1 year ago
I would get up early, breathe, drink coffee and take my dogs out for a long walk. I would pray, write in my journal (yellow legal pad)and watch bad morning TV for just a bit. I would try a class at the gym, if I can remember how to get there!!!

I would get a massage, maybe have my nails done. Meet a friend for lunch and try some "little plates". Then I'd go home for a nap with the canines. Later I would read...and then make someone play Scrabble with me....cook something I've never tried for dinner....watch a movie and go to bed on clean, fresh sheets. I may stay home today. It's raining like an ark's being built!!!!
  • Julia · 1 year ago
Tara, my goal is to love my job so much that I'd still go to work on an off day! What do you do, if I may ask?
  • Crys · 1 year ago
time with the kids playing, reading a good book ( or 2), a long walk, and making a wonderful dinner made of FRESH ingredients ( something with a sauce - I love saucy meals)....
  • Ella · 1 year ago

i would walk though the city and let the day unfold for me. i would make detours for yoga class, a coffee and pastry, bookstore browsing a movie and a simple yummy meal. i would have no companionship save for my mind.
  • Jennifer · 1 year ago

OH...I've thought about this before...I think I'm a lucky lass as my mornings actually roll out as dreamed!

    MORNING:
I’d have a small breakie of all bran with almond milk before going on a 10-km run through a park or along a trail. I’d be listening to a new playlist on my own iPod. After a coldish-shower with yummy soaps, body scrub and face wash with cream, I’d dress in a favourite outfit!

    AFTERNOON
I’d spend the next few hours writing without disturbance. For work. Maybe it’s an article on Mexico and my Kundalini experience. Meet the girls for a late lunch. We gab and sip wine. I check voicemail and reply to a couple work-related writing queries.

    NIGHT
It’s a massage at 7:00 p.m. and then a nutritious homemade dinner with Drew. The stereo rotates some great tunes. Crosswords before bed.
  • Brenda · 1 year ago
    7:00 - Play tennis.
9:00 - Have the children's portion of pancakes and bacon at Cracker
    Barrel in Fishkill, NY.
11:00 - Ride the Metro North train down to NYC for a matinee.
3:00 - Discovery walk around the City before getting back on the
    train.
7:00 - Treat myself to a chicken parm dinner at Copolla's Italian
restaurant in Hyde Park, NY, as I work to develop marketing
"packages" that will get my customers really excited.
  • Missy · 1 year ago
I would fill my morning on a rainy day with making love under silk sheets, stay in bed and snuggle, and talk about far away places to travel Go for a mountain bike ride with music in my ears on the trails looking at the beauty of our rain forests overlooking the city below. Then home to open a bottle of red wine and share making dinner with friends. Finish the day off with crawling back into bed and making love...ok maybe sex! heehee

    BONJOUR MES AMIS!!

Ahhhhh... 24 hurs to fulfill my interests... How wonderful is that thought!!! It's like a waterfall appealing to all my senses full of possibilities...

I would start my day with meditation, and prayer soft music and a soft candle lit to start my day communing with my Higher Being... which I do today.

Secondly I would head to a Yoga class to limber and "treat" my body...

Following the class I would pursue my dream of being cardio fir, and really go for a run...

Tend to my dwelling would be next... Make my surroundings absolutely divine, and allow creativity into this sanctuary by lighting my candles, and playing my soft music.

My creativity still in place: I would pursue my three passions: writing, designing and sewing and painting... All three... Love them... and to treat myself I would entertain a few friends if it happens to be Saturday!!!

Oh, glory! What a great way to spend time!!!!

    Bisous,

    Cécile

I would sleepin in late everyday, as I get my best work done at night. I would my afternoons with client and vendor appointments, networking and meet and greet lunches. I would spend the evenings with the one I love doing whatever we think is fun at the moment and then I would start doing work on my biz, probably until like 2 in the morning.

Take a long, mindful walk, write, cook a delicious meal, connect with my husband and daughter, read.

As it happens, I am mostly free today. I guess I know what to do!
  • Linda Borland-Fitzgerald · 1 year ago
    ahhhhhhhhh... perfect
  • JoeM · 1 year ago
I'd have to start in with more time with family. Fun time. Then at least three hours working on my next book. A few hours on a current screenplay, then a few hours at the sculpture studio. And of course, close out the day with a nice meal and more time with my family.
  • Linda Borland-Fitzgerald · 1 year ago
*If one was available every day, I'd walk along the oceans' shore every morning. *Brew the perfect pot of coffee, rich & full bodied with a taste that lingers
*Read for a while then work on a crossword
*See one perfect client in their home
    *Create something
*If one was available and affordable, I'd eat the perfect meal, made by my chef
  • weezie · 1 year ago
FIrst of all I'd have to pretend I lived in Dallas and not in this dusty little West Texas city, but I could get up real early and drive over, listening to "This American Life" and "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me" podcasts all the way. First stop would be the Botanical Gardens, which are soul-restoratives. Then to a foreign or indie film at the Angelika, then a stop by Central Market (the BEST grocery store in the world). I'd drive home, and have a small dinner party with dear friends, good wine, and great conversation. I'd drink regular coffee at the end of the meal so I could stay up and read some kind of international thriller for a while before bedding down with the man I love.

ohhh thought provoking..in a very good way...
1.) I'd take even more time to brew my special Starbucks espresso roast coffee and leisurely eat a healthy breakfast while enjoying the view in my backyard.
2.) I'd read, and read and read...all of the books I've been buying and never have time to read!
3.) I'd enjoy time with my hubby and my children just playing...no rules, pure playtime!!
4.) Cook a fantastic dinner and dine with glass of Shiraz.
5.) Connect with God, read and study bible and enjoy the beauty
6.) Watch back-to-back episodes of I Love Lucy!!!!!!
7.) Sleep 12 full, luxurious hours
There, that should do it!! :)

A long walk / hike in the mountains, while picking mushrooms or berries, followed by a long horseback ride. Third, I would cook a multi-course dinner for all our friends. Last, an evening of special time with my husband.
  • Traci · 1 year ago
Husband snuggles, puppy cuddles, yoga, writing, and crazy good food.
  • Angela · 1 year ago
Does unlimited money come with this totally free day?

    1. I would go for a walk if the weather permits. I'm trying to walk alot more - to the library, grocery store, walmart, and any other errands around town to save on gas.
    2. I would read - whether thats in my apartment, at the library or at a bookstore.
    3. I'd probably watch alot more tv and dvds.
    4. I'd like to think I'd cook and bake many wonderful things to eat yet not gain any weight (losing weight would be even better!).
  • Ellen · 1 year ago
Interesting to be asked that question today - I'm taking next week off while my Sweetheart is out of town in order to do just that - have an open week full of things that are meaningful to me. And I'm just making my list of what those will be.
First, I will learn more of how to create. The Hicks book on creating what I want will be a big help.
Second, I will tear down the hideous rose-colored homemade blinds in the living room left there by the previous owner.
Third, I will study more on my professional specialty.
Fourth, I will have lunch with my friend Julie.
Fifth, I will read spiritually meaningful material.
Sixth, (well....I have a whole week, not just one day!) I will plan my career for the next year.
    Seventh, I will have spaghetti.
  • Jill · 1 year ago
I'd probably do things I normally do, but would slow down and thoroughly enjoy each activity:
    - Cook something that takes a long time (risotto or cream puffs)
    - Read
    - Work-out
    - Write
    - Sew
  • Janey · 1 year ago
My morning would start with myself and Jessy (my 6 yr old Golden Retriever) going to a local lakeside park for a little frisbee playtime. After that.... a 1.5 hr workout, back to the pad for a cup of Tazo Black tea with Skim and a touch of honey, a shower with all my fav lotions and potions, quiet time reading on the couch wrapped up in a blanket, an afternoon nap (if it is raining), a fun and delish sushi dinner with my fiance catching up on his day...then a walk along the lake and chats on our fav bench and end with watching a flick together snuggling with a glass of Cab with Jessy at our feet. Is that 4? or 5? or 6? Lol...Afterall... It's my day!
  • Sophia · 1 year ago
You know what would be even better than 4? No worries about such things!
    We can achieve that!

Ditto! rain and loving go hand in hand!
  • MoJo · 1 year ago
Create: write, take pics (bl&wh), make cool stuff with my daughter, and definitely some 'sweatillect' ;-)
Reflect: read, meditate, be a lump.
Indulge: get a massage, eat (but not cook!), drink wine, watch movies.
Connect: have an uninterrupted 4 hour conversation with my man - geesh, I still can't get enough...
  • jennb · 1 year ago
1 A Spa day all by myself 2 A nice brunch with me and my guy. 3 Some afternoon delight. 4 Watch a great chick flick and cry my eyes out. 5 And a repeat of number 3.

    1. Creative writing: Just letting it all flow out onto the page.

    2. Sweating: Running, yoga ... whatever makes me feel like I showed thanks for my healthy body.

    3. Eating: I am talking fabulous food and wine here, people.

    4. Love: My fiance, family, kitties, and the people with whom I come in contact on a daily basis.

    5. Spirituality: Working every day to connect with the greater powers that surround me.

Oh how I love reading these responses! Delicious!

    Here are my 5:

    1. Mind Blowing Sex, or, an encounter with nature and the universe that feels like mind blowing sex.

    2. Wandering in one of my favourite Toronto hoods (Kensington, Queen street?) and poke into shops that sell books, stationary, furniture, clothes, truffles or organization solutions. Or any shop that looks like candy.

    3. A writing date. Me alone in a cafe that gets great light, plays great music, serves fair trade coffee and attracts other writers.

    4. Time with friends and phenomenal food where I can tap into rebellious teenage energy, drink scotch, laugh REALLY LOUD and be saucy.

    5. Building Halloween props with my Honey

This coffee idea is very appealing to me... Mmmmm I should add that to my day... I worship good 100% Colombian coffee...or Jamaica Blue Mountain, or Kona...

  • Susie Hutchinson · 1 year ago
A walk with our daughter, a long conversation with my husband, dinner with close friends, talking with my sister, cousin and mum, and watching a movie.
  • Keiko Lee-Hem · 1 year ago
There would be good food at every meal, a deliciously challenging yoga class, connecting with family and friends over the phone or over food, some easy/inspired craft making and home decorating and some lovin from my sweetie.
  • Diane · 1 year ago
I'd take a long walk on the beach in the morning, returning overturned horseshoe crabs to the water as I go, create some new beautiful album design, write, and cook an amazing meal. If there was any time left over, I'd make one room in my home just sparkle.
  • Katie Kay · 1 year ago
Easy peasey for me...1)sleep until I wake up, 2)breakfast with a latte on the back deck, poolside with my hubby 3)workout with my Crossfit pal's, 4)read a good book floating in the pool, (75 degree day please), 5)cook an amazing dinner and drink good wine with my hubby and 2 college age kids. HEAVENLY BLISS!

I love the idea of Essential Things.

On first thought my list would include:
writing (morning pages - must get back to them)
    reading (for fun and elucidation)
communicating (with positive well-chosen words, written and spoken)
relaxation (yoga, great TV {hurray for DVD TV!}, walk in the park)
connecting (with friends, family, colleagues, my guys)
  • Lisa M. · 1 year ago
Swimming, gardening, reading, writing, hiking, sunning and partying.
  • Cindy · 1 year ago
Your response is perfect (all except #5 - I don't know a thing about building props) - everything else sounds perfect! My #5 would be a long walk in the woods near water. Divine!
  • Karen · 1 year ago
start with a venti tazo chai (I am particular to those) while reading a paper, talk my Jack's for a long walk and catch up with others on their dog walk, watch General Hospital, shop for nice shoes (don't need to always buy), and as a final act make something for dinner to share with friends and family (homemade pickles, a pie, thai dishes, whatever I can get my recipe books to help me create)

Everything else that happens in between - driving in rush hour, cleaning house to be a great host, waiting in line at Starbucks - all lend themselves to the anticipation of that which I love to do.

It is only when life is rushed and I have to do something without have a positive reward that I despise traffic. :O

AM run alone, day at the beach with family(snorkeling maybe), 30 minute nap, a good movie, and a few hours with friends having a beer at night.
  • Connie · 1 year ago
Daily chores for cats and self; reading; walking; talking with loved ones or seeing them occasionally; listening to good music; good TV at night; sometimes time in favorite bookstore.
  • Brenda · 1 year ago
This is easy for me as I am 7 months pregnant and have a 15 month old. I would sleep in, drink a hot cup of coffee or tea, enjoy all my meals for the day, eating slowly and without interruption. Nap in the afternoon, a long hot shower, a day of pampering. Be in a very quiet and calm environment enjoying the sounds of nature.
  • Connie · 1 year ago
Oh yeah, I'd be online for an hour or two morning and night, probably one of the best parts of each day for me.

Ahhhhh, just had one of those days...it included:
    1) Exploring ( mostly outdoors, but also included rummaging for my birthday cake in a large truck with the words "Indulgance" elegantly painted on it
    2) Movement and exercise (cycling the South Shore of Nova Scotia),
    3) Being creative (transforming from cyclist to dinner guest on the beach was pretty creative!),
    4) Appreciating/reflecting (so easy to do in and by the ocean - soothes all the senses, then relax seaside and be served a fabulous meal & enjoy great conversation)
    5) companionship (with good friends and connecting with new people, and celebrating with family - a birthday and a soccer championship)
  • Linda Borland-Fitzgerald · 1 year ago
There is nothing better than that perfect cup that lingers for a while - unless maybe you have Montreal (NYC) style bagels and cream cheese, and you're sitting in front of the fire on a week-end reading the morning papers.. ahhhh.
  • Dolly Hopkins · 1 year ago
Way to go Leo....you sound like you have perfected the art of living.
Me on the other hand - well I find pockets between all the other stuff - Not that my life is not full of things I love to do ....some of my love is hard love other bits of it are softer and more forgiving. I love to read, play out my creative ideas, eat and drink fine foods and wine, witness spectacles of wonder, hang with my best friends. This does change at times I find that my creative reality allows me to shift from one passion to the other quite esily.
  • Marie Leona · 1 year ago
    1) Finish reading A New Earth to empower me.

    2) Walk in the nature with my camera.

Essential also would be reading, playing MY kind of music, studying to expand my consciousness and taking time out in nature to just oak in the beauty of the world and feel privileged for the life I can choose to lead.

Movement: yoga, dancing, a walk, a run, making love, swimming, kayaking....something that is loving to the body

Sensual pleasures: some fabulous food, one of my favorite teas, some music that inspires me to move or be creative or drop within myself, a lavender/geranium bath, all experienced in a sanctuary of an environment free of clutter, full of space, splattered with color and beauty

Creating and giving: offering myself to a project that inspires or offering presence and love to people throughout the day

Add in some writing, reading, and a massage every few days and I'm in heaven.

I would wake up and jog to sunrise ( I'm not yet a runner so this would be sublime), I would return home and before the baby woke i would write in my journal and mediate on good things and then browse the net and be inspired. I would put on good morning music and then have special play and feeding time with my son. We would then take a stroll downtown and say hello to strangers and get breakfast at a little cafe. Then during his nap time I would work on something creative. My husband would come home in the afternoon and we sped the evening talking, laughing, we'd eat dinner together and then perhaps watch a movie. The babe would be put to bed, I would grab a book and read and sleep and look forward to doing it all over again.

    My things:
    1. Become a habitual runner/swimmer/yogi
    2. Journal & Meditation
    3. Inspiration via the web
    4. Good music & quality time with my son (no TV)
    5. People. Hustle & bustle. My camera.
    6. Creative outlet of my daily choosing
    7. Quality family time and laughter shared with my Loves
    8. A good book
    9. And yes, great sex.

I cheated a little by going over five but this would be a day filled with my necessities. I'm a stay at home mom and my good days look a lot like this. I am blessed.

    1. Meaningful work: whether it's schoolwork, work on myself, cleaning my house.
    2. Moving my body: dancing around my apartment, going to an exercise class, lifting weights at home.
    3. Love: Appreciating my friends, my family, my significant other (appreciation can take the form of an e-mail, phone call, sex haha)
    4. Nourishment: good food, healthy food.
    5. Lots of laughing and smiling. As little drama as humanly possible.

spending time in nature (e.g. walking in a beautiful forest or watching the sun set)
laughing & loving family & friends (chris & muki, my sister & her family, my mother & grandmother)
