Besides a ton of nutrients you also get a good amount of fiber in your system.
I personally consider myself the king of smoothies and have really perfected them over the years. My vitamix was probably the best purchase, for my health at least, that I have ever made.

Re: Getting Started with Raw Food: The Perfect Green Smoothie

I think the green smoothie is an excellent addition to anyone wanting to get into raw foods. I love Victoria Boutenko's book as well! I have written a couple of posts on our site about the fab green smoothie too. There are so many ways to make one and it's an easy way to 'get those greens'! Congrats on your journey and the influence you are having on your family. It is what we all dream of.

Re: Getting Started with Raw Food: The Perfect Green Smoothie

I agree with this article, it definitely is better to focus on what you are adding to your life rather than taking away from your diet when starting out on Raw foods. I've found that there are a lot of fun recipes to try, such as alternatives to pancakes that you can enjoy on RawPeople. This site has a lot of information for beginners, as well as support. I'm glad I found them when I first started! http://www.rawpeople.com/?u...

Re: Getting Started with Raw Food: The Perfect Green Smoothie

I've been reading about and dabbling with going raw for years, but this is the first time I've committed to challenge myself. This month, I'm doing a 30-day raw food program. Even though I'm not 100% raw, the first thing I noticed was that I had more energy.

Re: Getting Started with Raw Food: The Perfect Green Smoothie

Thanks for sharing these recipes everyone! Veggie shakes can be delicious in limitless combinations.

Unfortunately my first experience with them was from my dad, who was far more interested in health than in taste. He added raw garlic cloves to the drink and told me to gulp it down. Shudder. I can feel the urge to yak just thinking about it!

Re: Getting Started with Raw Food: The Perfect Green Smoothie

My personal favorite green juice drink is:
1/2 head romaine lettuce
1 bunch spinach or kale
1 bunch parsley
1/2 lemon
dilute with filtered water to taste

My favorite sweet juice is one green apple, 5 carrots and a thumb of ginger also diluted with filtered water.

I tend to drink juices in the evening because I eat a very light supper or I feel too full to exercise or, for that matter, go to sleep.

I bought a Power Juicer on sale with a coupon for around $60.

Re: Getting Started with Raw Food: The Perfect Green Smoothie

Thanks for sharing this recipe! I also love this trusty Green Smoothie Recipe (http://www.internationalora... that helps to internally clean our system - allowing for a more efficient digestive system and clear skin!

The recipe is below, and I found it on the International Orange's (a beautiful, holistic SF Spa and Yoga Lounge) blog. The International Orange blog is a wellspring for wonderful wellness, beauty and lifestyle tips, and I read it daily along with C+D! :) For an additional view point, check out Amy from IO's thoughts at:

www.internationalorange.com...

THE RECIPE:
Ingredients
3-4 Celery stalks, cleaned very well
1 Lemon, remove skin but leave the white pith (if in a hurry, juice it instead)
1 handful of Parsley, washed and stalks removed
1 Granny Smith green Apple, cored

Directions
Coarsely chop all the ingredients. Place ingredients in a blender and add water to about an inch above the contents. Blend until smooth.
