    Of course don't you know on the day this appears I try a major "disciplining action" on my 15 year old son that left us both upset and I have been spending all morning pondering these questions trying to figure out where I actually should be putting in the effort - I would have to venture that it is a little bit of 2 and 3. Yes, I have been way too busy to give my kids time when they are available and ditto for my husband...We teach what we need to learn!

    Did you know that books by the Arbinger Institute are available in large print? These books are very helpful for those who have trouble reading standard print size (which can be pretty small). The best site I know of for finding these is: http://www.readhowyouwant.com/

    Our kids will be open to our teaching when they are ready to hear it - which is typically not when we're ready to give it, so it's also about finding the right time.

    Often kids may think that we parents just don't "get it", and they may be right! In my family, each of my kids is so different from me, so to them it may seem like I am teaching my way which they may not percieve to be better.

    Also, sometimes lessons are best taught the hard way. So for example, when we see their homework strewn around the house, should we teach them how to be organized, or simply give them the homework we found, or maybe when the child arrives at school without it, they realize how important being organized is!
